One Room Challenge: Dealing with Overwhelm – Week Four

April 25, 2019

I’m Miranda.
You can find me in Indianapolis, Indiana with my hubby Andrew, daughter Ryan and our pup Porter. I believe everyone has the power to create a home, life & business that they LOVE.

Well folks, here we are at week four and the room looks EXACTLY the same as it did last week. When my to-list is a mile long, home projects are the first to slide. That said, I found the perfect vintage lamp bases to create our DIY Edison bulb lamps to flank the mirror, and I also picked out prints for my empty picture frames. My sweet friend Colette is launching a print shop over at The Lipstick Lens and I can’t wait for you to see her work! I’m obsessed with the pair of prints we landed on.

My Many “Jobs”

I know this is supposed to a home decor post, but it’s taking a twist. If you are new around here, I will give you some background. I work full-time for a medical-device company as a marketing manager, I own a digital marketing company, run the @thoughtfullythrifted Instagram, Pinterest and this blog. I’m also opening a vintage retail shop at the end of May in downtown Muskegon. Oh, and let’s not forget that I’m also planning a wedding which is happening in ONE MONTH.

Needless to say, I am a busy freaking woman. I love to work. It’s in my blood, but I also love to focus and go “all in.” It is becoming so hard for me to bounce from task to task and get in a new head space 100 times a day to serve my company, serve my clients, and keep up with the blog. These past two weeks, I have been exhausted to the bone. I almost fell asleep while I was running errands last night (face palm). And no one can lecture me on sleep because I get at least nine hours every single night.

Battling Overwhelm

The most accurate word to describe these last two weeks is overwhelm, and ironically, the audio-book I’m listening to talked about overwhelm two days ago. I was like dang God, thanks for making me listen to this at this very moment when I need to hear it most. Jen Sincero talks about living in the moment and focusing ONLY on the present to avoid the feeling of overwhelm. Sounds great in concept, but how do we actually apply that?

Focus on the Task at Hand

For me, I usually keep my to-do list visible to me at all times throughout the day. It sits there staring at me with the 500 things I need to get done. So, yesterday, I decided to pick one project, and shut my planner. It was a physical symbol of focusing on only the project at hand, and guess what? I’m doing it now, too! I picked writing this blog post, shut my planner, and got to writing.

ORC Finish Line

So, getting across the One Room Challenge finish line isn’t going to be easy for me. I’m traveling from now until 11PM the night before the “reveal.” Please tell me how the heck that is going to work… Anyways, I’m trying to figure it out.

Here is what I need to finish or purchase:

I’m basically screwed because I’ll be gone for the next two weeks. I have today and tomorrow to get this space into a photograph ready state (feels a bead of sweat dripping down forehead). If I was rich, I wouldn’t be sweating because I would just order all of this online and have it arrive while I’m going and make Andrew deal with it, but alas, that is not the case (yet lol).
