Our Affordable Bedroom Transformation

I always prioritize organizing and decorating our bedroom when we move into a new house. We spend so much time in there, and I enjoy having a little oasis to escape to at the end of the day.

I thought this project would be relatively easy. The plan was to remove the wallpaper, paint, and rip up the carpet to expose the beautiful, original hardwood floors. Ha, jokes on me!

The wall prep ended up being extremely difficult. The wallpaper — and even worse, the wallpaper glue — and I went twenty rounds. I wrote an entire post on the most effective way to remove wallpaper and wallpaper glue (after trying tons of suggestions).

Thankfully, after days of prepping the walls, the painting was quick! I opted for a traditional shade called “Norwegian Blue” by Behr paint. Behr Marquee at Home Depot is my absolute favorite paint. I swear by it.

Lots of elbow grease completely transformed our bedroom. We were so lucky that the hardwood floors were in perfect shape under that nasty carpet.

We had just redecorated our bedroom last year so thankfully already had furniture and bedding that we loved from our last house! It was fun to take items we already owned and give them a completely different vibe.

There are still a million things to do in this room! We need to hire an electrician to install overhead lighting, as well as replace the outlets and light switches. I also want to install quarter round along the baseboards to cover some carpet tack damage and gaps.

But for now, I’m relishing in hard-earned progress! This room makes me happy every time I walk in. There is such a different level of satisfaction with a house project when you do something with your own hands!
