If you have been following along with my vintage, campaign nightstand shenanigans on Instagram then you might know why I’m writing this post! Styling nightstands and shelves has never been my strong suite. I love placing and selecting furniture, but when it comes to the smaller details of the room, I’m out of my comfort zone. I had to look to Pinterest for some inspiration on how to style my nightstands.

After browsing through hundreds of inspirational images, I found a common theme on what types of objects people commonly style them with. Here is a go-to list for finding items to style a nightstand:

  • Lamps of all shapes and sizes
  • Stacks of books or magazines
  • A photograph in a frame
  • A cool bowl of some sort
  • A dish to store jewelry in
  • A potted plant (of course)
  • A small clock (i love the round ones)
  • Vase with flowers
  • Baskets for storage
  • A deliciously scented candle
  • Small figurines/knick knacks

Here is the good news, you likely have some of these objects around your house! There is nothing better than shopping your own home to restyle a space. That is what I did when styling our new campaign nightstands!

Create Dimension

When I think about styling nightstands, I also think about the space above the nightstand itself. I love how the designers above create layers by placing items behind and in front of one another. This inspired me to change up the artwork above our new nightstands! I wanted to create more dimension.

Functionality is Key

We are very practical when it comes to our decor. We like objects that have a use, and we aren’t very keen on clutter. One thing I found annoying with the nightstands in our master bedroom was that there was never room for a glass of water at night or a place to set your phone to charge! Decor that isn’t functional just isn’t worth it in our home.

I am so happy with my decision to purchase these vintage nightstands, and I had so much fun styling them! I’m going to enjoy them hanging out in our spare bedroom with my empty picture frames sitting on top of them haha.

You’ve inspired me to change out my nightstand in our master bedroom for some of the same reasons you cited for your annoyance with the ones in your master: I have room for my lamp and one paperback book, but forget trying to squeeze a water glass on the top of it!
