First off, I have to LOL at my own blog title. Keeping our house clean with a German Shepherd is a constant battle. He sheds A LOT, and honestly, I was not prepared for the amount of dog hair that would make it’s way on to our floors, furniture, linens, and pillows. His hair is everywhere. Yes, everywhere. Sometimes it’s even in our food. I’m past caring anymore. I am the arms in the air emoji when it comes to dog hair littering my house.

All of that said, I’ve found a few key ways to combat the dog hair! Porter still sheds just as much, but I’ve figured out more efficient and effective ways to pick up all those fur balls.

FURminator® Long Hair deShedding Tool

Brushing a dog who sheds is NOT enough! We are obsessed with the FURminator deshedding tool. I can pull handfuls of hair off of Porter with this. We try to de-shed him at least once a week, but in shedding seasons, we have to do it more. You could literally make a full length coat with how much fur comes off of him. The best thing about the FURminator is that you just press a little button and the hair releases right off the tool. No more pulling out the hair from around the brush bristles.

Reusable Lint Rollers

We bought a few reusable lint rollers off of Amazon. They work like a charm and reduce cost and waste compared to a traditional lint roller with sticky paper. If you have a high shedding dog, this will help you collect hair off of furniture and clothes without creating 100 sheets of trash. We keep the bigger one right in our mud room so we can give ourselves a quick roll on the way out the door & then I keep the small one in my car! You do have to run them under water to get the hair off, which can be kind of annoying, but the inconvenience is worth it since you don’t have to keep buying refills!

BISSELL Cleanview Pet Vacuum

This right here is the game changer for rugs, pillows, and sofas (We don’t have any carpet). We have been relying solely on a shop-vac to suck up dog hair for over a year. I’ll get to that in a minute. We finally pulled the trigger on a new vacuum after our Shark died. We bought the BISSELL Cleanview Swivel Pet Vacuum Cleaner, and I have no regrets! The best part about the vacuum is the hair eraser tool. It’s an attachment the acts like a lint roller on steroids, and it has changed my life for getting hair off of pillows and couches. The only drawback to this vacuum is that it can’t get under some of our furniture, which leads me to the shop-vac.

Mini Shop-Vac

Yes, a Shop-Vac. You would likely picture this out in your garage or something, but we use ours in the house like it ain’t nobody’s business. It is the absolute best for sucking up dog hair. Even after buying a new vacuum I still use this for baseboards, under furniture, and other hard to reach places. I might even suck up the crumbs on the stove with it, but who’s judging? The new hair eraser tool that came with our vacuum works 100x better for pillows and the sofa, but I used to use it for that purpose, too.

Must Have Cleaners

The items above address the hair problem, very well, but then there is the occasional clean up. Aka my absolute nightmare. If someone decides they feel like going in the house instead of outside (not naming any names here) my cleaning process includes, Thieves cleaner, Nature’s Miracle Spray, Nature’s Miracle No Mark Spray, and the most important & strongest odor absorber, this powder Arm & Hammer Carpet & Room Pet Fresh Odor Eliminator. You can sprinkle it on any surface, hard or soft, and it will absorb literally any odor. Finding this was a game changer. You dust the surface, let it sit for 20 minutes and then vacuum it up. I use our Shop-Vac for this task so I don’t junk up the new vacuum
