Honestly, I wasn’t planning on having a bridal shower. Nothing in our relationship has followed tradition, and we like it that way. I’m also very picky and the last thing I wanted was a stack of Tupperware. I know, I know! I’m terrible! But, when my mom’s friend, Melissa, offered to throw me a shower, I threw out the idea of a couple’s shower. I’m so glad we did this! Since we had a destination wedding this was the perfect opportunity for family and friends that couldn’t travel to Mexico to come celebrate our marriage. There was wine & beer & food. All of our favorite things.
My mom and Melissa chose Chateau Aeronautique Brewery and Winery, located in Onsted, Michigan to host our shower. The winery was founded by Lorenzo Lizarralde in 2008 on an Airpark north of Jackson, MI with a home and a hangar on a grass runway. Wines have been handcrafted in the hangar using Michigan grapes, fermented in French yeasts and aged in French oak barrels. Lorenzo, being an international airline pilot, incorporates the aviation theme with an open cockpit biplane logo on every bottle.
Desiring to grow their own grapes for better control and quality, having outgrown the hangar, and an abundance of requests to host weddings, buses, etc, the Winery acquired 26 acres in the Irish Hills for a second, larger venue in 2017 where all production of our Wine, Beer, and Cider now takes place. This is where our shower was held! The vintage hangar plane made an epic photo op
Instead of doing a registry, we told guests to bring something for us to have a date night either at home or out on the town! Friends and family showered us with the most creative gifts! From spaghetti dinner baskets (wine, candles, and pasta sauce included) to gift cards to Ticketmaster & our favorite local restaurants. These have already come in handy while we are recovering financially from the wedding! So thank you all.
