Baby Schroeder’s nursery is complete, and it was an absolute labor of love! The very first time we walked through this house, I knew I wanted this tiny, little room to be our nursery.
I dreamed up a feminine but sophisticated look for baby girl’s room. The design definitely changed course as I added items and the room started to come together, but the finished result is better than I ever imagined.
What I thought would be a relatively simple project turned into quite the undertaking. Once we started removing the wallpaper, we quickly realized that the walls were severely damaged and would need repaired.
Everything, I mean everything, in this room was wallpapered including the closet and the ceiling. After struggling to get two layers of wallpaper off of the walls, we made the decision to shiplap the ceiling, and I am SO glad we did! It added so much charm to this room.
Once the ceiling was covered in shiplap and the walls were smoothed, we did two coats of primer. Once that was dry, I gave everything a coat of the color “Patience” by Behr. I used a satin finish for a richer color and a tiny bit of shine.
I had full intentions of a wallpaper accent wall. I spent a fortune on wallpaper, but once the room was painted and started coming together, I completely changed my mind. The pattern was going to be too much, so I’m saving the wallpaper for a different project.
I’ve been slowly buying furniture and decor for the nursery over the last few months, so as soon as the paint dried, we started putting it together! Within a few days, everything was moved in and decorated.
This small room doesn’t have a “real” closet. Instead, there was a very shallow doorway that had been closed in and turned into a bookcase. We took out most of the shelves and added black, adjustable closet rods. We put one shelf at the top and one on the bottom of the closet leaving room for woven storage baskets to sit on top of each.
We found our crib brand new at a local salvage store for half of the retail price, and the dresser was a vintage, Facebook Marketplace find. We splurged on our glider. It was a gift from my parents! We choose the linen upholstery and upgraded to the electric recliner.
I repurposed some of my favorite black and white artwork that was originally a hand me down from my dad. The brass mobile came from Pottery Barn, and it was the perfect match with the original light fixture. The art above the dresser came from Home Goods a couple of years ago.
I usually like light filtering curtains, but we went with blackout curtains for the nursery. They are the perfect shade of cream with a light floral pattern, and the brass curtain rod is one my new Amazon favorites.
As far as baby products, we bought the hatch changing scale and nightlight/sound machine, and the Newton mattress. We are leaving the rest of the baby items on our registry for the baby shower!

I can’t believe we are going to be bringing home a baby in a few months. She won’t be sleeping in the nursery for awhile, but we will definitely be snuggling in the glider. It’s currently my favorite seat in the house!
