When we bought our current house, the main bedroom bathroom design was basic. Like the rest of our house, the bathroom was painted neutral gray. I soon found myself itching to revitalize the space.
My first move? To paint the walls a crisp clean white. I painted until my back cramped — but the change was immediate and worth it! The color provided a wonderful contrast to our black main bedroom and showcased the beautiful blue double vanity.
The next step was designing a small cut-out beside the vanity. I had just enough vinyl adhesive tiles from our laundry room makeover to create an interesting backsplash. My husband completed the cut-out by building two floating shelves. Now an once-awkward space has become a beautiful and functional storage cubby.
In my opinion, you can never have too much storage in the master bathroom. Functionality is key — but good design makes my heart sing. To create more bathroom storage, I initially planned to thrift a tall skinny hutch. Yet when the perfect hutch proved hard to find, I found a temporary solution.
Those who follow me on Instagram may recall the black ladder shelf I sourced from FB Marketplace. Originally, I planned to use the shelf in our living room, but it perfectly suited our bathroom. I am so happy with how this “temporary” storage solution turned out.

From there, completing the makeover was a matter of adding art, styling the shelves, and sourcing the perfect vintage Persian runner. I love the conclusion of our bathroom design. It now feels cohesive with the rest of our home — and proves how fresh paint and a little styling can really transform a basic space!
