Travel on a Budget
BLOG
We traveled to Tulum almost a year ago, and Iβm just now getting around to blogging about it. This trip was way too good and way too affordable not to share! Seriously, we spent less than $2,000 on a six day trip, including airfare. Our condo was ON the beach. We couldnβt have asked for a better vacation than this. Iβm dying to go back (hence the random blog post on a trip we took a year ago).
If you read about our Italy trip a few months ago, you know it wasnβt all sunshine and rainbows. That said, our winery tour in Sienna was absolutely magical. In fact, it might be one of my favorite memories from the trip. We had spent the last four days dealing with travel nightmares, and we finally got the chance to enjoy the culture, wine, and food of Italy at La Lastra. We booked the experience through Airbnb.
Our nine day trip to Italy, was, well, an adventure. When we got back home everyone asked the classic, βHow was your trip?β Our answer, βUm, 50/50.β Letβs start from the very beginning. We left our house Friday afternoon to drive to the Chicago airport (about a 3 hour drive). Our flight was due to leave at 9:30PM. We parked in economy (Life goal is to always park in the garage) and then waited for a bus for 35 minutes only to discover that the bus wasnβt running to that stop.
We love to travel, but sometimes it feels nearly impossible with limited time off of work and a tight budget. Earlier this year, we made the decision to take one big trip in 2018. Four months ago, we landed on Italy. With help from my world traveler brother, we decided to fly into Florence, spend a few days in Tuscany and then travel down to the Amalfi Coast. You guys know Iβm a thrifty gal when it comes to my home, and the same goes for our travels. With one day left before we board our international flight, Iβm scrambling with last minute details.
As I sit down to write this post, I am feeling refreshed and energized. Turns out, a week in the lush Costa Rican rainforest snuggled up in a hammock with a good book was just what I needed. Check out where we stayed and what we saw!
I’m a little late to the party blogging this trip, but it was just too cute not to share. Last month, we snuck away for a much needed weekend of quality time and relaxation. We rented the most adorable cabin in Sawyer, MI, just a few short miles away from the Warren Dunes. To my surprise there were antique shops EVERYWHERE, which was icing on the cake!

I shared a lot about the stressful part of our Italy trip, but I never really got around to sharing the magical part! After six days of exhausting travel issues, we arrived on the Amalfi Coast and finally got the chance to indulge in the food, the wine, and the beautiful Tyrrhenian Sea. We spent three days on the coast. One day exploring Amalfi, one day in Positano, and one day in Ravello.
