ORC Week One: Dark & Moody Master Bedroom Inspiration

The One Room Challenge, currently in its seventeenth season, is a widely anticipated biannual event every Spring and Fall. Each round, twenty design influencers are selected to take the challenge, as Featured Designers, and transform a space in 6 short weeks! Other’s have the option to participate as guest designers (that’s me friends)!

To date, more than 3,800 rooms have been transformed through the One Room Challenge and for this round, I’m tackling our master bedroom. My goal is to take it from light and staged to a dark, cozy hideaway!

A little background… We just moved and our new house is slowly but surely starting to come together! Out of the 4 houses I have owned, this is the ONLY house that has been renovated. All 3 of my other homes were historic, so I’m trying to find creative ways to bring more of my vintage and moody vibes to this home.

Our last house had a black and white dining room and it was one of my favorite rooms in the house. I knew I wanted to paint a room black in our new house, but I wasn’t sure which one. I landed on our bedroom and I’m so excited to watch this design come to life (I hope you are, too)!

The entire house is this neutral, grey color. My husband wanted to keep the bedroom light, but I’ve somehow convinced him to let me paint the whole thing black, and he’s actually excited about it now.

All of the walls will be limousine leather by Behr Paint, and it’s going to make the floor and trim pop. Now, let’s look at some of my inspiration for this dark, moody master bedroom design!

I’ve been loving all of the board and batten and trim work I’ve been seeing on Pinterest and Instagram! We are going to add paneling to the wall behind the bed to give it a 3 dimensional look.

White bedding and curtains along with a vibrant, red Persian rug will be a nice contrast against the dark walls. I’m also adding brass sconces to each side of the bed over black nightstands.

For the little window, nook area, the plan is to add a love seat, rug and small coffee table to create the ultimate coffee lounge. It’s going to be cozy and snuggling for curling up with a good book!

I can’t wait to get to work on this room! I have quite a few things I still need to order, but we have our wood for the trim ready, and I purchased our nightstands. Follow along on Instagram for all the updates!
