So many of you asked for this post, so I hope it’s helpful as you budget for a home renovation project. Most of the updates in our homes have been low budget, DIY projects that we can accomplish without hiring help, but we are planning a major kitchen remodel.
Before we dive in, please know that this blog post is just my personal experience sharing money with a S/O and there is no right or wrong answer to this question! What works for you might not work for others and vice versa. I’ve been on both sides of the coin, and there are pros and cons to combined finances just like there are separate finances.

From personal experience, my best guess is that many of us feel a lot of shame around money and shame is something we keep in the dark. Personally, I have felt a lot of shame and regret around the financial choices I’ve made.
It’s really easy to get stuck in a rut and spend your date nights at the same restaurant over and over! I’m speaking from experience here. Doing new experiences together can bring a fresh and fun dynamic to your relationship.
