October is the perfect month for outdoor hosting. The weather is beautiful — not too hot and not too cold. Fall foliage creates the perfect backdrop. Plus, social distancing is much easier outside!
This year, I celebrated my 27th birthday. With the pandemic limiting our options, a beautifully styled outdoor brunch sounded perfect to me. We invited our closest friends to keep the party intimate. Plus it was an ideal opportunity to flex my event-planning muscles. After all, even small parties can be thoughtfully designed!
I reached out to Shawn and Melissa of Sweet and Savory Catering to create a delicious brunch menu. They prepared a yummy spread: crispy breakfast casserole, cheesy hashbrowns, sausage, bacon, and assorted mini desserts. My mouth is watering just remembering it!
I decorated the table with flowers from UrbanStems and “shopped” my own home for centerpiece decor. I selected a dark color scheme in order to create an elegant autumnal aesthetic: black dinnerware, spice-colored linens, and jewel-toned candles. The plate settings are some of my favorites; in fact, I hope to offer these gorgeous black plates for rent through my event design service Thoughtfully Designed Co.
One of my favorite elements was our champagne bar. I stocked it with orange, pineapple, mango, and cranberry juice along with lots of berry and pineapple garnish. Perfect for mixing up different brunch mimosas!

It was the ideal October birthday party, surrounded by family and friends. Nothing replaces human connection — I was reminded of that truth this weekend and feel blessed to have so many wonderful people with whom to spend my special day!
