This “TV room” turned guest bedroom has been through so much, where to even begin? When we first walked through this house and were thinking about purchasing it, this room was being used as a “TV room.” The house has a formal living room, but it was clear this is the room the previous owners hung out in to catch up on their favorite shows.
With a huge living room and a sunroom for entertaining, it made no sense to us to utilize this room in the same capacity. Plus, it has a full bathroom! In our minds, it was common sense to turn this space back into a bedroom. There was so much work that went into this room before we could even move in the furniture!
We started by removing the dingy wallpaper, tossing the shady motel lamp into the garbage can and hiring a local handyman to close in the doorway that led to our staircase. He also extended a corner bulkhead across the room for a more consistent look.
Next, we ripped up the carpet and had the gorgeous hardwood floors refinished. It blows my mind that they were hiding these beautiful floors for who knows how many years! Then, our drywall guy came in and put a nice coat (by coat, I mean 3 coats) of mud on the walls and ceiling. The ceiling was textured and now it is nice and smooth!
The final steps of preparing this room for furniture and decor consisted of lots of primer and paint! We did two coats of Kilz Primer and two coats of Behr Marquee in Polar Bear White (my personal favorite white paint color). Once the paint was dry, we took off the bathroom door and put it on a barn door track. We did this purely for logistical reasons! A tiny bathroom with a door that opens inward is not very practical.
Once the paint dried, it was time for the fun part! Bringing in the furniture after such a long projects always feels so good. We purchased the grey, upholstered platform bed from Zinus and Lull was generous enough to gift us a super comfortable mattress and duvet! They have also provided a discount code for you! Take $250.00 off of your Lull mattress when you purchase through this link!
I swear by these pillows from Amazon. We have them on almost every bed in the house along with an HM duvet cover. We typically buy their linen duvet covers, but this time we went with a cotton in this fun black stripe. The faux leather throw pillow and green bed blanket came from good ole’ Target.
We purchased the wicker light fixture from World Market and it was super easy to install by using pieces form the existing light fixture. If you don’t have an existing fixture that will work with this shade, you can purchase a kit off of their website that works with the shade itself. The matte black sconces came from Amazon and were $50.00 for the pair! They can be hardwired OR plugged in. Completely up to you!
Everything else in this room we had on hand including the curtains, artwork and nightstands! Eventually, I want to swap out the art for something that matches a little better and purchase the right size Persian rug, but for now, it feels great to have a few “finishing touches” in the room even if they weren’t chosen for the space.

Although this space isn’t quite where I want it to be yet, I can’t believe how far it has come! Looking back at pictures from just a couple of months ago, you would not know this is the same room and for that, I am thankful! Home projects take time and patience and this room is requiring a lot of that.
