Our laundry room drove me nuts until I decided to tackle it seriously. Naturally, it was the catch-all room yet it had little to no storage or organization.
The vacuum, trash can, dog food, bowls, brooms — you name it — were strewn about making it hard to even stand in front of the washer and dryer to do the dang laundry!
With the addition of some wall cabinets, paint, and peel-and-stick tiles, this space looks like a completely different room. It’s bright and fresh; and all of sudden laundry doesn’t seem so bad anymore! (HA kidding. Is that even possible?) More importantly, this room is now super functional and full of concealed storage.
Originally, I wanted to install a front-load washer and dryer with a countertop over the machines. However, after polling my Instagram friends, I opted for top-load instead. To create storage, we installed white wall cabinets and floating shelves; now all the unsightly laundry paraphernalia is tucked out of sight.
Next, I created an accent wall using adhesive vinyl tiles from StickPretty. You may remember them from our kitchen remodel and boho bathroom makeover. I love these tiles because they are so easy to install and make such a huge difference without the mess of grout and tile saws.
Two coats of fresh white and a coat of blue on the vanity completed our little laundry makeover. The sink cabinet is melamine (a white plastic-y material) so I was concerned the blue paint might not stick. But so far it has held up just fine!
I am so thrilled with the finished look of our laundry room. It’s amazing what a little elbow grease can achieve. This room started out empty and boring yet transformed into a space that truly makes me happy. In my opinion, that is exactly what good design should achieve: making your house feel special and uniquely yours.
